Will Meghan Markle wear the Queen's favourite nail polish on her wedding day?
Meghan Markle‘s wedding to Prince Harry is fast approaching and royal fans are eagerly anticipating her bridal look, from her dress and accessories down to her hair, makeup and even her nail polish. We’ve been wondering which nail shade Meghan will opt for – will she play it safe and wear a pretty light pink or nude shade, or will the Suits star break with royal tradition and pick a bold hue?
We very much doubt she’ll opt for a bright hue – only natural-looking nails are allowed at official events, and that includes huge wedding celebrations. We doubt she’ll be breaking royal protocol on her big day. One theory is she may take inspiration from her Majesty the Queen, whose favourite pale pink polish is Ballet Slippers by Essie, priced just £7.99.
Ballet Slippers has been the Queen’s go-to colour since 1989 when the monarch’s hairdresser wrote to brand founder Essie Weingarten to request a bottle of the elegant polish. The Duchess of Cambridge is also a fan of high-street label Essie – when she married Prince William in 2011, manicurist Marina Sandoval blended Essie’s ultra-wearable Allure shade with Bourjois So Laque Nail Enamel in ‘Rose Lounge’.

Meghan Markle chose a light nail shade at her engagement announcement with Prince Harry
Meghan is a fan of subtle shades, having chosen a baby pink colour for her engagement photos with Harry. The public will be watching on 19 May to see if she chooses Essie like the Queen. HELLO! asked top nail ambassadors for their bridal colour predictions for Meghan. Which shade do you think she’ll go for?
Nail technician Metta Francis, Nails by Mets @nailsbymets
“For Meghan’s big day, I would recommend Barry M’s Pink Lemonade Gelly. It’s the perfect shade for Meghan, a soft nude-pink that will look amazing against her warm skin tone. It’s a subtle yet chic shade that won’t overshadow Meghan’s dress, make-up or accessories. Topped with the Barry M’s Plumpy Top Coat, it will give a lovely professional gel-like finish” Priced £3.99 and £2.99 from superdrug.com
Adam Slee, Rimmel Global Nail Ambassador
“‘Super Gel ‘New Romantic’ is a soft pale pink which is a great for wedding shade, however for something a little more subtle I could recommend Super Gel in ‘Soul Session’ which is a great nude hue.” Priced £5.99 from superdrug.com

Jenni Draper, OPI ambassador
“Meghan’s approach to beauty is quite low-key and I would imagine that for her wedding day she will be keeping things quite natural still. Bubble Bath from OPI is perfect for a natural sheen, applying 2 or more coats will give a more opaque colour that still looks effortlessly chic. Her complexion would work well with a peachy tone, so if she were to be a bit bolder then You’ve Got Nata On Me is a delicate peachy colour, perfect for a spring wedding.” Priced £13.50 opiuk.com
Vernice Walker, Brand Manager at Leighton Denny Expert Nails
“We imagine Megan wearing a beautiful ivory gown so to compliment we’d recommend Crème de la Creme from our collection. It’s a gorgeous nude that would really suit Megan’s skin tone and has enough coverage to enhance the tips giving you a subtle, toned down version of a French manicure which looks classic and fresh.” Priced £12 from leightondennyexpertnails.com
